About us
Our vision is of a global health community working together to transform health for everyone, especially the most disadvantaged.
Our mission is to be committed partners in world-leading global research networks that promote equitable knowledge sharing to advance and protect the health of the most vulnerable.
The global health community must work together to transform health outcomes, especially for disadvantaged populations. Despite the greatest burden of disease being in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), global health research investment remains disproportionately focused on high-income nations. Millions suffer or die each year from preventable or treatable conditions due to inadequate research and poor disease management.
The NDM-Centre for Global Health Research envisions a world where LMIC researchers lead efforts to generate and apply knowledge that improves health in their countries. To address global health inequalities, we advocate for stronger international research collaborations, interdisciplinary learning and robust health systems that protect the most vulnerable.
Our mission is to be committed partners in world-leading global research networks that promote equitable knowledge sharing. We achieve this by fostering partnerships to tackle global health challenges, advancing collaborative research methods and supporting postgraduate education and career development for scientists. We also engage decision-makers and practitioners to maximise the impact of research.
Building research capacity and supporting LMIC leadership is central to our approach. By creating truly global networks that foster equitable collaboration and actionable knowledge, we aim to improve health outcomes for all, now and in the future, through a shared commitment to trust, knowledge exchange and collective progress.
Global health at the University of Oxford
NDM-CGHR is part of the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health. Our position within the University enables us to collaborate in an interdisciplinary way with colleagues across Medical Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Life Sciences, and Social Sciences.
Over the past 40 years, University of Oxford-linked teams have been building expertise in well-established research centres with headquarters in Kenya, Thailand and Vietnam. These Africa and Asia Programmes are born out of collaborations within LMICs. The Programmes house some of the world’s leading scientists working on health issues affecting some of the world’s poorest people.
NDM-CGHR provides an extra dimension to this important work. Over the past decade, we have evolved from a small collection of researchers based in Oxford with strong links to the established Africa and Asia Programmes, to a large group of international experts working in partnerships across the world on issues impacting health globally.
